Ten years after Senator Bob Brown joined a protest against whole log exports from Tasmania, Forests Minister Eric Abetz has joined the call.
"Millions of tonnes have been exported while this Minister for Forests was silent. Now Gunns is buying into Auspine and the Minister is howling. The export of these logs at prices lower than Tasmanian businesses are willing to pay and at the cost of jobs here involves unforgivable mismanagement of the resource by the Lennon Government," Senator Brown said.
On Senator Abetz' $2 million plan to "end illegal logging" overseas, Senator Brown said the Minister's dismissal of calls for a ban because "cheap clichés won't work" was a silly avoidance of the need for real action.
