Greens Optimistic on Convention Seat

With over 90 percent of the above-the-line votes counted, the pro-republic Tasmanian Greens have a strong chance or winning the vital sixth state seat for the Constitutional Convention on the republic, Senator Bob Brown said tonight.

"It"s neck and neck for the last two seats. The No-republic ACM and the Australian Monarchist League will fight it out for one, and there"s a 3 way tussle between the Greens, Australian Republican Movement and Eric Lockett for the other."

"The Greens are disadvantaged by getting preferences from no one, but have a headstart with primaries and the likelihood of a good flow of below the line votes."

"The Greens" Dr Louise Crossley has a stirling chance", Senator Brown said.
