Greens Leader Bob Brown today praised Rupert Murdoch's move to make News Corporation carbon neutral, across all of its businesses, by 2010.
"Rupert Murdoch's plans to make News Corporation carbon neutral by 2010 set a shining example to other business leaders and to the Howard government," Senator Brown said.
"Reducing emissions makes business sense and environmental sense. Rupert Murdoch knows it, but Howard, Costello and Turnbull still don't get it."
"The 2007 budget fails to move Australia towards the readily available 30% cut in greenhouse gas emissions from burning coal through energy efficiency.
"I am delighted that News Corporation plans to send a positive message to its audience. Halting climate change will create exciting opportunities for innovations and jobs in Australia and it's incredibly important that positive message gets out to the public," Senator Brown said.
"Meanwhile in the Senate both major parties are still far behind Mr Murdoch's thinking. Both Labor and the Coalition voted against motions to halt the logging and burning of old-growth forests in Australia and to accept the implications of containing global temperature increases to 2 degrees or less to avoid catastrophic climate change."
