"Give him an Order of Australia" – Brown

"The Prime Minister John Howard should stop mucking around and host the Dalai Lama when he visits Canberra in June," Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.

"Mr Howard says he's looking at his diary – it is another form of avoiding Beijing's bad books.  China's Communist dictatorship does not want the Dalai Lama to have an official reception.  The Australian people disagree and Mr Howard should stop vacillating and set a time, tell the media and open up the meeting to the publicity it deserves."

"This week U.S General Abizaid from Iraq was given an Order of Australia by the Governor-General.  Surely the Dalai Lama merits the Order too," Senator Brown said.
