Today's announcement that the Government is reviewing our involvement in the

UN treaty process shows that Cabinet is embracing Pauline Hanson's foreign

policy, Greens Senator Bob brown said today.

"While John Howard pursues trade liberalisation his Government is seeking to

lift up the human rights and environment draw bridge," Senator Brown said in

Devonport this afternoon.

"Australia is getting closer and closer to Beijing in seeking trade

liberalisation but avoiding human rights and the environmental

responsibilities.

"Like China, Australia wants to open the trade door while closing the door

on human rights and environment obligations. Open for trade but closed for

scrutiny.

"It is pure hypocrisy for the federal Government to run away from the United

Nations when it criticises mandatory sentencing, when the Prime Minister

himself says he thinks the laws are wrong," Senator Brown said.
