Japan's demand that Australia accept killing of whales in the North Pacific as reason for not killing humpback whales in the South Pacific is mafia-style blackmail. Environment Minister Turnbull should reject it out of hand and raise the threat of global ostracism of Japan, Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"Australia should have a naval presence wherever and whenever the Japanese whaling ships enter Australian territorial waters. Their harpooning and flensing should be made be made a world spectacle. Minister Turnbull should get past his timid attitude and take Japan to the world court, challenging the breaking of international law involved in its bloody whaling," Senator Brown said.
