Greens Senator Bob Brown says the UN Race Discrimination Committee's finding that the government's native title legislation is racially discriminatory was inevitable.

This is an informed and independent inquiry, free of the political caucusing by which the Howard government got this shameful legislation through parliament.

Australia will come under continuing international condemnation because Howard's native title act robs Indigenous Australians of basic rights of a say in what happens to their land.

"I think most Australians don't realise how anti-Aboriginal this legislation is and its potential to create ongoing condemnation and civil strife for Australia" Senator Brown said.
