The Australian Greens' push for enhanced democracy in the territories has been supported in the report issued today by the Senate's Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"However, the Opposition and two Labor senators, treating Territorians with colonial-style disdain, have opposed the bill," Senator Brown said.
"We welcome the report's findings and fully endorse the minor amendments. The Australian Greens plan to proceed with a debate on our private senator's bill soon."
"The power for the Commonwealth parliament to make laws for the Territories, found in section 122 of the Constitution, is endorsed by the Greens' bill."
