Dr Henry, a futurist - Brown

Greens Leader Bob Brown today congratulated Treasury Secretary Dr Ken Henry for a quarter of a century of service to Australians and the Australian economy.

"Dr Henry should be particularly applauded for his work as Secretary over the past 10 years and, most recently, the tax review that included plans for Australia's tax system to address climate change and extract a fairer rate of return on the country's wealth being extracted by the big miners," Senator Brown said in Canberra.

"Dr Henry has outlined a path forward that governments, present and future, will benefit from."

"Dr Henry also has a solid track record as an environmentalist and we hope he will continue his work to protect endangered species including the hairy-nosed wombat and the yellow-footed rock wallaby."

"We look forward to working with Dr Henry's successor, Dr Martin Parkinson, currently Secretary for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, as we push for an effective price on carbon to protect Australia's future prosperity."
