Introducing Greens Denison Candidate, Dr Geoff Couser
Australian Greens Senators, Bob Brown and Christine Milne are delighted to announce Dr Geoff Couser as the Greens federal candidate for Denison.
Dr Couser comes to the Greens as a staff emergency specialist at the Royal Hobart Hospital and a passionate spokesperson for Tasmania's unique environment.
"Geoff Couser will be a great and true representative for the people of Denison," says Senator Brown.
"Dr Couser will be a strong performer in parliament. He will bring a fair, balanced and sensible voice to a lower house that is dominated by the two old parties,"
"His experience as a health professional, as well as being a senior lecturer in medicine at the University of Tasmania, means he sees daily the gaps in a health system in urgent need of improvement.
"But more than identifying gaps, Dr Couser will step beyond what is currently on the table and work towards true health care reform involving mental health services, dental care, and improved access to elective surgery and primary care.
"He has been on the board of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy for the past six years, and he is a strong advocate for the protection of Tasmania's unique environment.
"His role in helping to establish Doctors for Forests demonstrates his commitment to protecting Tasmania's beautiful places and future economic interests.
Greens Deputy Leader, Christine Milne says it is an exciting time for the people of Denison.
"With a long serving incumbent retiring this year, this is the chance for Denison to bring the Greens to the House of Representatives.
"The Greens topped the vote in Denison during this year's state election, so there is no reason why we cannot do it again.
"Dr Couser is all about making Tasmania shine, and as a candidate for Denison, Geoff has plans to place the state's capital as the leader in improved healthcare, environmental protection and fair education for every student.
