Greens' senate move to ban junk food ads during kids TV

Greens Leader Bob Brown will move an amendment to the Communications Legislation Amendments (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2008 (CLAMM) in the senate today, banning junk food advertising during children's TV viewing hours.
"The Greens' amendment will introduce a national ban on junk food advertising during children's television. The current advertising regulations are inadequate and no longer meet community needs or standards," Senator Brown said.

GM status requires urgent Rudd action – Greens

The Rudd government should override the Victorian and NSW governments' decision to lift the ban on genetically modified canola crops, Greens leader Bob Brown said today.

Australia must keep GM-free advantage

GREENS National Initiative on Forests and Climate POLICY

Greens call to end junk food advertising

Greens Leader Bob Brown today launched the Greens' policy to ban junk food advertising during children's television viewing hours.
 
"There is only one reason that hundreds of millions of dollars is spent advertising junk food to kids: because it works," Senator Brown said in Adelaide today with SA Greens senate candidate Sarah Hanson-Young.
 
An international consumer conference in Sydney has heard that one in five children now either overweight or obese and that by 2020, only 35 per cent of young Australians will be categorised as "normal" or "underweight".

The National Rural Heath Alliance has issues its updated election scorecard, placing the Australian Greens ahead of all other political parties, Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.

Greens Leader Bob Brown today renewed calls for the Prime Minister to ban junk food advertising during children's TV viewing hours as part of the fight against childhood obesity.
 
"What's inside the fridge won't change because there's a fridge magnet on the door," Senator Brown said.
 
"It's pretty useless sending out one fridge magnet on healthy eating to every school child if they continue to get bombarded with hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising promoting junk food on television," Senator Brown said.
