Why do we need a carbon tax?

Australian Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown held a press conference to discuss the banning of tobacco company donations to political campaigns, the ongoing work by the Multi Party Climate Change Committee to price pollution, the appointment of former ALP secretary Karl Bitar as a pro-gambling lobbyist, and the expansion of the Greens team that will occur on July 1st.

Australian Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown was interviewed at the Senate doors this morning where he discussed the ongoing negotiations to price pollution.

Senator Bob Brown welcomed the split in Coalition ranks on plain packaging for cigarettes and pricing pollution, and reiterated the Australian Greens’ support for the Treasury’s proposed super profits tax on mining.

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown today released polling results that show overwhelming support for redirecting the government's $11 billion a year hand-out to fossil fuel companies to renewable energy research and development.

"Taxpayers' money is being used to support polluters, including coal and oil companies. Building a cleaner, safer, healthier 21st century economy means we need to cut pollution and focus on developing renewable energy, rather than prop up the carbon-intensive past," Senator Brown said.
