Australian Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown says all roads in the debate over poker machines are now leading top the Greens' one dollar bet limit option.

"Nick Xenophon's call for this option to be backed in today's press, and Andrew Wilkie's willingness to revert back to one dollar bet limits, and the fact that it is a much cheaper option for clubs to implement, points to this being the  point of agreement for everybody who wants to take real action on the damage to society of compulsive gambling.

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown today welcomed growing support for the Greens' $1 bet limit policy as an effective way to tackle problem gambling.

"The Greens' bet limit option is good policy and we welcome the growing political shift towards our option, catching up with public opinion," Senator Brown said in Canberra.

"Limiting poker machine bets to $1 and jackpots to $500 has drawn strong public support. It is simple, effective and much cheaper for clubs and casinos to implement.

Bob Brown comments on the Qantas hearing, pokies, coal seam gas

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown spoke to reporters today about Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce withholding his lockout plans from the Government and doing enormous damage to Qantas.

Senator Brown also welcomed growing support for the Greens' $1 bet limit option as a means of tackling problem gambling. Other topics included coal seam gas exploration, food security and the rights of farmers to be able to produce food, and UNESCO.

The option of limiting poker machine bets to $1 and jackpots to $500, as outlined by Australian Greens Senator Richard Di Natale yesterday, has drawn strong public support, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.

"From charitable organisations to the person in the street, this option has struck a positive chord. People like it. It is simple, effective and much cheaper for clubs and casinos in terms of implementation," Senator Brown said in Hobart.
