Greens support Lock the Gate president in CSG court case

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown and mining spokesperson Larissa Waters will attend a rally in Dalby today to support Drew Hutton, President of the Lock the Gate Alliance, in his appearance before the Magistrates Court.

"I have known Drew for 30 years. He is a co-founder of the Australian Greens. His courage and integrity are formidable characteristics when lined up against this money-hungry, invasive coal seam gas industry," Senator Brown said.

Historic Senate vote changes climate

The Australian Greens are celebrating the historic Senate vote for world-leading legislation to tackle the global nemesis of climate change.

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown congratulated Greens Deputy Leader Christine Milne and the Gillard government for giving Australia a real breakthrough in tackling that nemesis of climate change.

"People 50 years, or 500 years, from now will thank us for doing this," Senator Brown said.

Bob Brown and Larissa Waters' press conference about water security and CSG

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown and mining spokesperson Larissa Waters spoke to reporters in Canberra today about coal seam gas and water security. Other issues included Qantas, mining tax legislation, and Australia's vote against UNESCO's recognition of Palestine as an independent state.

Senator Waters will introduce a bill into the Senate today to protect the nation's water resources from mining, including coal seam gas.

Senate passes Greens’ motion of concern over Rena oil spill

The Senate today passed a motion moved by Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown that expressed concern over the Rena oil spill in New Zealand.

(a) requests that the President convey to the people of New Zealand (Aotearoa) the Senate's concerns about the oil spill and other consequences of the stranding of the container carrier ship Rena; and
